Patrick H. Bliss, 80, of Beloit, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023 after a courageous 8-year battle of cancer surrounded by family members.
He was born August 10 to Charlotte and Harold Bliss. He graduated from Beloit Catholic High School and continued his education at Milwaukee School of Engineering. As a young man, Pat learned the importance of hard work and perseverance. His love of cars began at an early age, starting with a 1941 Chevy Coupe. He married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Donna, and they would have celebrated 60 years of "Wedded Bliss" this year.
Pat first began his automotive career in 1956, working for a local service station, then working as an ASA Certified Automotive Technician at Bud Weiser Chevrolet for many years, and United Industries as a machine operator. Finally in 1984, he chose to pursue his dream and opened his own automotive repair shop (Bliss Automotive Center) which he and his wife operated for 32 years until their retirement in 2015 due to Pat's illness.
Over the years he and Donna enjoyed vacationing in Door County, WI with their good friends, Jean and Arlan Affeldt, and also riding their Harley Davidson trike. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and the Green Bay Packers. Pat also enjoyed helping with the Lion's Club yearly bus trip to the Chicago Auto Show.
A man of strong faith, Pat enjoyed serving many years at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church as an usher and minister of communion to the parish and also to shut-ins.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Donna; daughter, Maripat (Reid) Bliss-Ribbon; son, Dann Bliss; grandson, Joshua (Joni) Bliss; great-granddaughter, Fiona; granddaughter, Jennifer Bliss; great-grandsons, Jaiden, Malakei; granddaughter, Madelyn Bliss; brother, Mike (Emily) Bliss; nephew and niece, Jeff and Cindy Bliss; sister-in-law, Kathy (Herb) Stoltenberg; nephews, Paul (Beth) Stoltenberg, Andy (Anneke) Stoltenberg, Tim Stoltenberg; and many other cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; lifelong friends; and also his cats, Sonny and Mamie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Harold; son, Alan Bliss; sister, Pamela; and grandparents.
The family wishes to thank his special nurse, Holly, along with the many other nurses, doctors and caregivers at UW Carbone Cancer Center and UW Hospital, who helped Pat through his cancer treatments and all others who helped with aid and prayer.
