Patrick J. Connolly

Patrick "Paddy" Connolly, owner of the Paddy Cake Bakery in Bloomfield for almost 40 years, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. Paddy, 72 years old, was the son of Martin J. and Ernestine C. Connolly, both preceding him in death, along with his youngest brother, Robert Connolly. Paddy is survived by brothers, Martin, Dennis, and Darrell Connolly. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Cathy, Mary, and Maria. Paddy was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered for his loving attitude, his warm smile, and the special cakes he lovingly crafted to commemorate special events. Known for his skill at decorating wedding cakes, he was also the winner of several awards for his work, including one from the Pillsbury Baking Company and six winning entries in the 1982 Retail Master Baker's Association of Western Pennsylvania competition. He dedicated his life to the Paddy Cake Bakery and in 1993 was tasked with baking a 200-pound cake shaped like a McDonald's Big Mac for the 25th birthday of that sandwich. In 2021 he sold the bakery to his apprentice and adopted "niece" Theresa Richter, who promises to continue to "bake you a cake like nobody can." Paddy was a longtime member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church located in Franklin Park, now known as LifePointe Alliance Church, Franklin Park Campus, where he was an active member. He always took advantage of opportunities to share the love of Christ with family, friends, and customers whom he always enjoyed serving. Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at D'ALESSANDRO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY LTD., 4522 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201 (Lawrenceville), Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, and again at Lifepoint Alliance Church, 2298 Rochester Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2025.
