Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Father-in-law, Poppop, Uncle, Partner, Friend, Pops, Patrick. If you called my father-in-law any of these names, you were truly blessed!
I am not sure I have ever met a more genuine, caring man, he epitomized the saying give you the shirt off his back. In college, I was lucky enough to meet and marry his son, whom he proudly referred to as That's my boy. Michael and I were married and became parents as young college students, Poppop appeared every weekend for a Sam's run. Kirsten had every movie she could have ever wanted, more Lunchables then she could ever eaten, but more importantly she received more love from her Poppop than any other first born grandchild. A few years later when Mickey came along, she was spoiled even more so, as she was watched by Mommom and Poppop while we worked. As our girls got older the made weekly trips to the Dollar Store, where poppop's wallet was opened, and much to my dismay half the store came home with them. Poppop attended dance recitals, school plays, and soccer games, but could not bring himself to attend graduations and proms - he said he couldn't attend these events without crying. He truly loved his granddaughters and they ADORE him. Then we added a third child, a furry one to our family - Jewel puppy. Oh how she loved her Poppop. She loved going to see and of course be spoiled by him. He would come to our house and walk her if we couldn't get home in time. He would keep her when we traveled, and would never tell us how naughty she'd been until we returned.
The last 2 weeks were truly torture, watching a great man suffer. Although our hearts are hurting, we are comforted in knowing he is no longer suffering. Please give Mom C, Mom M, and Jewel puppy a hug from Mike, Kirsten, Mickey and I.
This world has lost an amazing man - our dad, father-in-law, Poppop!
