Patrick Dalton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home on Dec. 23, 2025.
Patrick Joseph Dalton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, a proud Irish American and lifelong Chicagoan, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family.
Pat was born on August 10, 1937, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chicago. He was raised on the west side in the city he loved deeply and carried a lifelong pride in both his Irish heritage and his Chicago roots. The youngest of seven children, he was born to Margaret (Carmody) Dalton and James Dalton and grew up surrounded by strong family bonds, values, and traditions that shaped the man he became.
Known for his quiet strength, loyalty, and steadfast devotion to family, Pat lived his life with integrity and humility. He believed in hard work, showing up for others, and never forgetting where you came from. He was a gifted storyteller, writer, and poet, as Robert Frost once judged his work and wrote, "he's so good he could be great." Above all, he was a devoted family man whose presence, wisdom, and love will be profoundly missed.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife, Ginger, of 64 years; his children, Kerry (Daniel) Hahn, John Dalton, and Mary Clare Gourley; his grandchildren, Patrick Dalton O'Donoghue (Jessica), George Dalton Hahn, Margaret Carmody Hahn, Michael Augustine Dalton, James Patrick Gourley, Emmet William Gourley, and Camille Dalton Gourley; and his great-grandchildren, Lucille James O'Donoghue and Molly Elizabeth O'Donoghue.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary (Raymond) Manning, Monsignor John "Jack" Dalton, Margaret "Peg" (Barney) Sloan, Catherine (Thomas) O'Connor, James Dalton, and Joanne (Jess) Callahan; a beloved Uncle Pat to over 50 nieces and nephews, and a friend to many.
Services will be held at St. Norbert & Our Lady of the Brook Church, 1809 Walters Ave., Northbrook. on Saturday, December 27. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass. Live Stream Link.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council # 7331, Divine Word Council. 1809 Walters Ave. Northbrook, IL 60062.
Patrick's life was guided by faith, family, and love.
May he rest in eternal peace.

Dear Ginger and John:
We are so sorry to learn of the passing of your loving Husband and Father, Pat. As neighbors for so many years, we have 1st hand knowledge of his humor and his interest in the well being of his Family, Friends and All he came in contact with. I recall how he enjoyed writing letters to the Editor in the Newspapers, caring for his lawn, and especially the pride he had in his children and grandchildren. He will be missed but his memories will
linger in your hearts, where he will eternally reside. Rest in Peace Patrick!
With our Condolences,
Anita and George Cooks

I really liked Pat. He was our neighbor here in Ancient Tree and one of the first people we met when we moved here. I looked forward to seeing him each time I saw him and looked forward to his enthusiastic story telling. And it didn't matter even if I knew what he was talking about because his exuberance was worth listening to! Being a fellow Chicago Irishman, I appreciated his affinity to his heritage and his parish. He was a nice man.

So sorry to hear about this. Pat hired me at World´s Finest Chocolate and we worked together in the field many times. He was one of the kindest person I ever knew. I loved listening to his stories about WFC. Praying for him and his family.
