Patrick Michael Finn, 64, of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully with his husband by his side at Cape Cod Hospital on July 18, 2025. He was born in Troy, New York, on May 26, 1961, to Frank R. Finn and Patricia M. Carter Finn. In addition to his parents, Patrick was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin F. Finn (Stephanie Ross-Finn).
He is survived by his devoted husband, Jose Sanchez (Kike) of Wellfleet; his sisters, Bridget M. Finn of Greenwich, NY, and Colleen M. Finn of Waterford, NY; his nephews, Sean Finn, KC Alfonzo Finn, and Finn Brletich; and his grandnephew, Carter Finn.
Patrick graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, Manhattan College, and Boston University School of Law. He dedicated more than 32 years of his legal career to serving children and families in need as an attorney in Family Court across Barnstable and Southern Massachusetts. His work was marked by compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
At the age of 17, Patrick began teaching English to refugees from Vietnam and China-an early sign of his lifelong dedication to service and inclusion. He later became Swim Director, Instructor, and Lifeguard Trainer for the Wellfleet Recreation Department, where he spent over four decades lifeguarding and training lifeguards. Patrick embraced his role as an instructor with passion, giving hundreds of children the opportunity to experience the joy of swimming and the ability to safely enjoy Wellfleet's many waterfronts.
Patrick joined the Wellfleet lifeguards in the early 1990s and became a cherished member of the team. His favorite place to guard was Cahoon Hollow Beach on busy weekends, where he handled the crowds with calm confidence and his signature engaging style. He made lifelong friends along the way, and his fellow Cahoon guards remember their days with Pat with deep affection, gratitude, and plenty of laughter. As a lifeguarding and CPR instructor, Patrick trained and certified hundreds of guards and swim instructors, shaping generations of lifesavers throughout the Wellfleet community. His legacy lives on in every one of them.
Patrick was also deeply involved in the annual Swim for Life event held in Provincetown. He organized lifeguard volunteers to ensure swimmer safety along the long course across Provincetown Harbor and participated in the event numerous times. He became part of the ""Circle of Honor"" for swimming in ten or more events or raising more than $10,000 in support of the cause.
During the COVID crisis, Patrick volunteered with the Wellfleet Senior Center and the Congregational Church, delivering meals to elderly residents living alone. He also provided pro bono legal services to immigrants and community members in need, always offering help with humility and heart.
Patrick was more than an attorney, a lifeguard, and an athlete. He was a great son, a loving brother, a devoted uncle, a cherished friend, and a beloved husband. He was a mentor and a deeply kind soul, well-liked by everyone he met-from his neighbors in Wellfleet to friends across the world. His warmth, generosity, and quiet strength touched countless lives, and he will be missed tremendously.
A celebration of Patrick's life will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The Flying Fish, 29 Briar Lane, Wellfleet, Massachusetts.
