Patrick J. Flaherty

1935 - 2025

Patrick J. Flaherty, 90, of Lower Burrell, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by family. He was born on Oct. 2, 1935, to the late Fred and Margaret Flaherty and was a longtime resident of Lower Burrell. Mr. Flaherty graduated from Arnold High School (1953) and St. Vincent College (1957). He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Lower Burrell. He was a wonderful father of four. He was a high school mathematics teacher at Plum and then Burrell High School for 35 years. He was the girls' basketball coach at Burrell. After teaching, he worked 28 years at the Butler Auto Auction. He was a poll worker in Lower Burrell, an usher at the Benedum Center, and enjoyed the Pittsburgh Symphony. He was a P.A. announcer for Burrell football and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jean C. Mizgorski Flaherty; two sons, Daniel (Heidi) Flaherty of Gibsonia and Timothy (Fran) Flaherty of Allison Park; two daughters, Mary (Tom) Pollick of Allegheny Township and Patricia Babinsack of Lower Burrell; 11 grandchildren, Ryan (Chrissy), Craig, Elisabeth, Peter, Liam (Autumn), Sean, and Lucas Flaherty, Thomas (Jessica), Madelyn (Cameron Norris) Pollick, and Bridget and Benjamin Babinsack; great-grandchildren, Gillian, William, Michael, Riley, Milo, Rowan, and Sadie; and sister-in-law, Patrica Flaherty. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Flaherty, Marion Scheftic, and Dick Flaherty. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, at RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St. Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, in St. Margaret Mary Church.
