NEW CARLISLE - Patrick L. "Pat" Francis, 74, of New Carlisle, passed away at 7:56 a.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born December 28, 1946 in Piqua to the late Cletus and Catherine (Groff) Francis. He married Shirley Ann (Curtis) Francis September 29, 1990 in Las Vegas; and she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Paul Francis; two daughters, Carie (Rick) Cottongim and Sharie (Kevin) Walters; two grandchildren, Mathew (Kimberly) Gray and April (Tyler) Ritchie; one great grandson, Colt; six siblings, Ann (Tom) Koehl, Tom (Annette) Francis, Joe (Sharon) Francis, Marlene Weigel, Jackie (Michael) Dunson, Cathy Francis; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Weigel.
Pat was a 1967 graduate of Piqua Catholic High School. Pat was a proud U.S. Army veteran that served as a SP4 during the Vietnam Conflict and was a Purple Heart Recipient. He and his wife Shirley own and manage Sham-Poochies Pet Grooming in Dayton and enjoyed showing their dogs, usually Alaskan Malamutes or Shiba Inu breeds. They also helped to start the Echo Hills Kennel Club in Piqua. In his spare time, Pat was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his son and friends. He and Shirley loved to travel from Vegas to Florida, New England and more. Pat was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother and he will truly be missed.
A service to honor his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Daniel P. Hunt officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery with full military honors being presented by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com.
