Patrick Haggerty

Some time circa1981 I attended a series of lectures in Seattle by a Patrick Haggerty. This Patrick Haggerty with these lectures then became one of the most influential people in the way I think and view history and pre-history. His lectures were enthralling, meticulously researched, fact-based and footnoted. He was hands-down one of the very most brilliant people I ever encountered. The topic was Anthropology, particularly the history of the matriarchy and the patriarchy, I don't remember any exact titles for the course, which as I remember was six week course of lectures. In another part of my life I had heard about the existence of Lavender Country the band and was appreciative but it didn't register deeply until I recently heard a cover of "I can't shake the stranger out of you," by A. Savage. I went to buy that on Amazon which I luckily wasn't able to do, which bummed me out because it's a great cover, but led me to look for the original version which I bought along with the album but as I did it dawned on me that this could the same person that I knew from the lecture series. Patrick Haggerty, you were the real deal.

It took a while for word to get around to me about Patrick's passing. I am deeply saddened at the loss of such a unique individual. The world needs more folks like this. People who unabashedly stand up for who they are, how they are, where they are, when they are. He was a dear, sweet person whom I feel I had the good fortune to be able to work with (musically) and get to know personally. My deepest condolences to his close friends & Family (esp JB). I will miss him very much.

Patrick was our brother in SO many ways. Equally, he was our teacher and counselor ... the kindest man on the planet! To all his community and fans, we share your loss but also encourage your song.
