Patrick McGlinchey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Royal Oak on Mar. 15, 2026.
Patrick McGlinchey, born March 5, 1946, passed away in the hospital surrounded by the love of his family. He lived a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those he loved most.

Patrick was the son of Irish immigrants, Margaret and Edward McGlinchey, and was one of eight children. Growing up in a large family helped shape the deep sense of loyalty, humility, and care for others that he carried throughout his life.

On October 9, 1970, Patrick married the love of his life, Patricia. Together they built a family rooted in love, laughter, Irish pride and strong Catholic values that continue through generations.

Pat was a provider and an extremely hard worker. Prior to retiring to Houghton Lake, he spent his career as a pipefitter at McGraw Glass in Detroit. Later in his career, although not required, Pat pursued and achieved his Bachelors Degree in Business in 2002.

Pat was a proud and devoted father to his three children: Tim (Kersten), Kevin (Mary), and Maggie Gobel (Phil). He was also the cherished grandfather of ten grandchildren, Brendan, Eileen, Anna, Myles, William, Finnegan, Nora, Benjamin, Levi and Charlotte, who were truly the light of his life. Nothing brought him greater joy than being present for them. Whether it was track meets, soccer games, his infamous boat rides, basketball games, tennis matches, golf outings, musical performances, or dance recitals, Grandpa Pat showed up with pride and encouragement. His steady presence in the stands meant the world to his family.

Known for his kind heart and gentle spirit, Patrick had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued. He lived his life with humility, warmth, and quiet generosity.

Pat was also an avid golfer and golfed courses around the country and even in his beloved Ireland, and spent many days at The Quest in Houghton Lake, Michigan. The game brought him great joy, but even more meaningful were the friendships and memories made along the fairways with family and friends. He was a dedicated and loyal fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and MSU Basketball. His family and friends hold many cherished memories cheering on these teams with him.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Patty; his children Tim (Kersten), Kevin (Mary), and Maggie (Phil); his ten beloved grandchildren; and his siblings Edward (Angela), Thomas (Patricia), Kathleen (Mark), and Margaret, his siblings by marriage Mary, Cedric, John (Bobbie Jo), Gerardine (Bart), Bonnie, and Sue (Dave). Pat cherished his strong relationships with many cousins, neices, nephews, and friends of his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Margaret, beloved inlaws Cedric & Aletha, his siblings Roseanne, Maureen, and Jack, as well as his close in-laws Dick, Liz, Tom, Rose, Bob, Danny, Peter, Dan and nephews Robbie and Michael.

Above all else, Pat will be remembered as a faithful son and brother, a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and a truly gentle soul. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished so deeply and in the many lives he touched simply by being himself.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Visitation for Pat will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 3 - 8 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Rosary & Sharing of Memories) at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. The Funeral Mass for Pat will be celebrated on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. (9:30 in-state) at St. Mary Catholic Church, 730 South Lafayette Ave., Royal Oak.
