Patrick (Pat) Modrell passed away peacefully at his home on October 1st after a three-month battle with lung cancer.
Pat was born on April 27, 1948, in West Seattle, WA to William and Katherine Modrell.
Pat is survived by his wife Denise (Eyman) Modrell, his daughter Melanie Modrell, granddaughter Lily Perry, sister Chris LeCocq, nephew Eddie LeCocq and nieces Katie and Veronica LeCocq.
Pat learned early how to have a strong work ethic from his father Bill, who was a shipwright. As a young boy, Pat would help his father by doing chores at the building where his father built various types of boats. Pat served in the Naval Air Reserves in the sixties and early seventies where he studied to be an electrician and then took those skills and used them to work on ships at local Seattle area Shipyards. He was always eager to learn more and took classes in heating and refrigeration and received his Refrigeration license. He was hired by Seattle City Light and went on to complete a 4-year apprenticeship to become a station wireman and later completed a 5-year apprenticeship in the Relay Dept.
Pat had Scottish ancestors and was a self-taught side drummer in a Scottish pipe band in Seattle where he played in many pipe band competitions around the country.
He and wife Denise moved to Yakima in 2015 and built a home there, which was a longtime dream for both of them. Pat excelled at carpentry, electrical, HVAC and had a great knack for troubleshooting problems. His greatest joy was using his time and skills to help family and friends with home improvement projects and repairs. He truly was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
