Patrick D. Murphy Jr, of Haverhill, formerly of Acton and Winchester, passed away after a long illness on Monday, October 27, 2025, surrounded by his wife and loving family. Patrick was 63 years of age.
Born in Malden Ma, he was the son of the late Patrick D. Murphy and the late Carol Louise (Lambert) Murphy. Patrick grew up in Winchester, Ma and attended the local schools there, graduating from Winchester High School and then attending UMass Boston. Patrick was married for 40 years to Robin (Rooney) Murphy. He is survived by their son, Scott Murphy of Haverhill. Patrick is also survived by five brothers and sisters: Denis Murphy and his wife Ann of Winchester, NH, Patty DiBlasi and her husband, John of Lynnfield. Kathleen Baumer and her husband John of Holliston, John Murphy and his wife Lorraine of North Reading, Kerry Dempsey and her husband Tom of Tewksbury, Mike Rooney and his wife Patty of Sanford ME, April Hallisey and her husband, Jack of Bradford, Terry Rooney of Roxbury ME, Shawn Rooney and his wife Cheryl of Salisbury, and Michelle Rooney of Haverhill. Also survived by 24 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Murphy began his career with Bay Banks, in the collection and loan departments, and in later years worked at Sovereign Bank. In early adulthood Patrick was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite the diagnosis Patrick kept a full and active life. He had a passion and love for fishing and enjoyed deep sea fishing with his brother-in-law for tuna off the coast of Cape Ann. It was a point of great pride when the first tuna caught weighed in at over 900 lbs. Patrick was also a huge fan of all the New England Sport teams. Many an afternoon he could be found watching football with his in-laws, sharing in the excitement while enjoying game day food with everyone.
Patrick loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, Robin and their son, Scott. Second to that would be any time spent with his larger, extended family; both the Murphy's and the Rooney's. Whether it was a holiday get together, a family birthday celebration, a family trip to Disney, or just the enjoying the simple pleasures in life: a shared meal, a game of chess, his weekly lunch with his dad, Patrick was only too happy to join in, never turning down an opportunity to spend time with those he loved.
In later years, when his MS made it impossible to continue to work at his place of employment, Patrick did his best to stay busy and involved. He enjoyed working the polls during election times and despite physical mobility issues, never turned down an opportunity to contribute in whatever way possible.
However, what Patrick will be most remembered for, was his ability to appreciate and embrace life, even as his MS progressed, even as he acquired two new diagnosis' – diabetes then later, pancreatic cancer. Despite all these hardships, he never was one to complain, or give in to self-pity. He simply took the good with the bad, and kept on embracing whatever life had to offer. He leaves a massive hole in the hearts of his family as they mourn the loss of his deeply loving, inspirational and gracious heart.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Main Street, Haverhill, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Catholic Funeral Rites will be offered at 11:30 AM.
