Patrick O'Donnell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral & Cremation Services on Dec. 23, 2025.
SPALDING, MI - Patrick (Pat) Neal O'Donnell, age 72, of Spalding, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, surrounded by his loved ones.
Pat was born on December 8, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to Irene (Fagus) and Neal O'Donnell. He graduated from St. Benedict Preparatory School in 1972. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Hawaii and San Diego, CA, completing his tour as a Storekeeper.
After his honorable discharge, Patrick met and married Bonnie Ault in 1983. Together, they raised six children. After spending most of his life in Chicago, Pat moved his family to Bonnie's hometown of Bark River, Michigan, where he worked in security at the Island Resort and Casino.
Later, Pat returned to Illinois, where he worked in housing construction, installing security alarms. He enjoyed family camping trips every summer, working on computers, and whitewater rafting. Pat was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, a passion he proudly passed down to all of his children. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He was especially proud of his two great-grandchildren.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Michael and sister-in-law Gigi O'Donnell; and his sisters Noreen (Paul Sr.) Ernst, Coleen (Mark) Craig, and Molly (Grant) Vruels.
He is survived by his sisters Rose (Ron) Lauing and Dorothy (Pinky) Marcinkewicz; his brother Kevin (Maureen) O'Donnell; and his six children: Holly (Ross) Campbell, Meagan (Brock) O'Donnell, Bridget (Nick) Strom, Jacob (Alexis) O'Donnell, Erin O'Donnell (his favorite), and Dillon O'Donnell. He also leaves behind soon-to-be 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at a later date near his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to help support funeral and travel expenses.
