Patrick J. Diederich, 74, Greenleaf died Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Linn Community Nursing Home.
Visitation was Wednesday, July 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf with a rosary service following at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. Father David Metz and Deacon Wayne Talbot were the officiants. Carolyn Osborne was organist and hymns were “Here I Am Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles Wings” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were Frank Jorgenson, Eric Rosebaugh, Mark Diederich, Greg Diederich, John Hatesohl and Jerod Diederich.
Burial was in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Kimeo.
Pat was born in Concordia, KS on March 17, 1951 to Vernon and Evelyn (Laird) Diederich. He graduated from Linn High School and went to work for the Farmer’s Coop as a spray applicator and nurse truck driver for close to fifty years.
On May 5, 1973, he married Bonnie Day at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kimeo and together they welcomed two children, Stacy and Bryon. Pat was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Greenleaf Fire Department and was on the department board. Pat was a city council member and had served as Mayor for the city of Greenleaf.
In his down time, he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and Pro Wrestling. He loved dogs and he would take Harley Jo to the farm with him for the day.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and infant brother, John Michael; brother Michael Diederich; and brothers-in-law, John Walter and Randy Thorman.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; children, Stacy (Chris) Burkart, Olathe, Bryon (Kathryn) Diederich, Greenleaf; siblings, Dorothy Diederich, Greenleaf, Helen (Delmar) Wieche, Barnes, Sally Walter and JoAnn Thorman, both of Greenleaf, John (Cheryl) Diederich, Matt (Kelli) Diederich both of Greenleaf; and Mary Lisa Diederich, Marysville; sister-in-law, Della Diederich, Greenleaf; and four grandchildren, Abby Burkart, Alex Burkart, Avery Diederich and Max Diederich.
A memorial Fund is established to the Greenleaf Fire Department or Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
