Patsy Ann Hall Berger, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully in Tennessee on December 4, 2025. Born on November 24, 1927, in Jonesboro, Patsy lived a life full of joy, creativity, and unwavering faith.
A proud alumni of Jonesboro High School, Patsy was crowned Miss JHS and served as head cheerleader in 1946.After high school she married her high school sweetheart, Vic Berger, beginning a beautiful journey that spanned 47 years. Together, they raised three children, Vicky, David, and Mellie, first in Jonesboro until 1965, then in Jacksonville, Florida, for one year, and finally settling in Nashville, Tennessee.
Patsy and Vic endured the heartbreaking loss of their son David in 1971 at the age of 18, a sorrow that deepened their compassion and strengthened their faith. Patsy was a devout Christian who found purpose in praying for others and serving at the prayer desk in her church. She led the women’s group with grace and dedication, and in her later years, found joy and fellowship at Westside Fellowship Church.
In 1981, Patsy helped found the first Calligraphers Guild, a group of eight spirited women who called themselves “The Crazy 8s.” What began as a small circle of artists blossomed into a thriving community of over 80 calligraphers.
She cherished her “whole big family” and was known for her warmth, humor, and boundless generosity. Patsy is survived by her two daughters, Vicky (Walter) Simmons of Nashville TN, and Mellie (Rick) Bates of Nolensville, TN; six grandchildren—Jami (Kenny) Smith of Mt. Juliet, TN, Katie Porter of Lebanon, TN, Sarah (Matt) Tabor of Nolensville TN, Daniel (Jayme) Simmons of Mt. Juliet, TN, Jonathan Bates of Nolensville, TN, and Philip (Katie) Bates of College Grove, TN; sixteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nanette (Bill) Barber of Jonesboro, AR. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Letha and Basil Hall; her husband, Vic Berger; her son, David Berger; and her sister, Veva Greenwood.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 12:30 PM in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery officiated by Bill Barber.
