Patsy McDonough "Pat" Blackwell

Patsy "Pat" McDonough Blackwell, 81, of Reedville, formerly of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen McDonough; grandson, George Beattie; sister, Loretta Thompson; and first husband, William E. Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Douglas L. Blackwell; children, Crystal Beattie (John), Monica Davenport (Marshall) and Joseph Taylor (Laura); grandchildren, William Beattie, and Elisabeth and Annabel Taylor; and sister, Dixie Lee Smith. Patsy was born in Alabama, but grew up in Indiana before moving to Richmond, Virginia for her senior year of high school. She graduated in 1959 from Manchester High School in Richmond, after which she married William E. Taylor of Nelson County and had three children. Following William's death in 1985, she married Douglas Blackwell in 1989. Patsy worked for several years in Chesterfield County Schools. She and Douglas resided in Amelia and retired to Reedville on the Chesapeake Bay where they lived until her death. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Patsy will be remembered for her desire to always serve her family and bring them together for her many home-cooked meals, for her numerous beautiful songs she sang in church and at weddings, and for her willingness to help others in need. She attended Bethany Place Baptist Church in Chesterfield and later, Amelia Baptist Church. She was a member of the Tibitha Church of God in Reedville when she passed. She was a member of the Women's Club, Red Hats and Community Choirs. Her family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26 at Bliley's – Chippenham, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to any of the churches she attended.
