Patsy Carosa Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. - Rochester on Apr. 10, 2024.
Patsy D. Carosa
Mendon – On April 8, 2024 at age 86. He is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Carosa; son, Kenneth P. Carosa; sister, Cesidia DiMaria; brother-in-law, Richard Farkas; and "Aunt" Gilda Carosa. Patsy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lena; children, Christopher (Betsy) Carosa, Mary Lee Carosa and Andrea (Patrick) Borrelli; daughter-in-law, Elisabeth; grandchildren, Teresa (Will Merman) Carosa, Patsy Carosa, Cesidia Carosa, Catarina Carosa, Peter Carosa, Salvatore Carosa and Joseph Borrelli; great-grandchildren, Jack and Teddy Merman; siblings, Jean Farkas and Paul (Betty) Carosa; many nieces and nephews.
Born in Buffalo, NY, "Pat," as he was known, earned top ranks as valedictorian in 8 grade. His class was noteworthy. When it convened as Freshman in the fall of 1951, the Class of 1955 marked the beginning of the new Frontier Central School District. It was the last class to hold its graduation ceremony at Blasdell High School before the opening of the new Frontier Central High School.
No high school wallflower, he excelled at many extracurricular activities. For example, he handled the sets for the hilarious three-act farce "The Perfect Idiot." His greatest accomplishment, however, occurred on the gridiron.
Pat played a pivotal role in the Frontier Central High School winning the Erie County Interscholastic Football League's Division III title. No less than renown Buffalo Bills sportswriter Larry Felser (when he was still covering the high school beat) wrote these words: "Tackle Pat Carosa set up Frontier's third TD of the period by recovering a fumble on Frontier's 45."
In 1957, he received his Associate's Degree in Construction Technology from Erie County Technical Institute. Ironically, he had a head start on this subject, as he already worked with his father in the masonry business. "Carosa & Son" did plenty of work in and around Lackawanna, Blasdell, and Orchard Park, among other communities. Their brickwork and concrete block structures stand to this day.
Like many in his generation, he landed his first real job at Bethlehem Steel. Laying bricks represented a useful side gig during the inevitable layoffs. Raising a family required a steady job, and Pat made a brave leap into a new occupation. He served most of his career as a Safety Engineer for Hartford Insurance. The company promoted him twice, first as Loss Control Manager for the Rochester office, where he moved his family to in 1970. He remained there until he relocated his family from Mendon to Clifton Park when he was promoted to Loss Control Manager for Albany and the surrounding region in 1984. He retired from The Hartford after nearly thirty years, ultimately moving to Kings Isle, Florida.
Pat was very involved with his community and his family. He served as Cubmaster for Pack 489 in Blasdell, where he entranced the boys (and their families) with entertaining skits and games. Wherever he lived, he joined car clubs, including the Cadillac-LaSalle club. He was a 4 Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, actively appearing in full regalia. Returning to his performance roots, he had loads of fun faithfully promoted and appearing in community theater and variety shows in Kings Isle, Florida. He moved back to Mendon in 2021.
Pat was a friendly lovable person who was quick with a joke, even if he couldn't deliver the punchline without laughing. He was always there for a shoulder to lean on. He enjoyed antique cars, gardening, and treating his loving family to soft serve custard.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Even though I never met him, It was a pleasure to work on his and Lena's income taxes when I worked with Lucy Ciancone. Rest in Peace.
