Patsy Coffey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trinity Memorial Funeral Home - Muscle Shoals on Dec. 23, 2025.
Mrs. Patsy Mullins Coffey, affectionately known as "Mrs. Vogue," peacefully transitioned on December 23, 2025, at the age of 95. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Patsy was born on January 1, 1930, in Leighton, Alabama, to the late Effie Mullins and Lewis Randolph, Sr. She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Ervin Coffey, with whom she shared a life of love, service, and compassion.

She received her formal education at Leighton Training School and was employed for many years at Colonial Manor Hospital until her retirement. Following retirement, she continued her life of service as a caregiver for Jane and Johnny Dill, lovingly caring for her "bonus children," John Dill, Esq. (Caitlin) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Janie "Sissy" Dill of Florence, Alabama.

Together, Patsy and her devoted husband opened their hearts and home as foster parents to many children, providing love, guidance, and stability to those in need. From an early age, Patsy's faith in Christ served as her steadfast anchor. She was a faithful and longtime member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Leighton, Alabama, where she served devotedly as a Sunday School teacher until her health declined. She was also the oldest member of the church, admired and respected for her wisdom and dedication.

Pasty enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, and found great joy in Tunica, Mississippi. She also loved to talk about things she did while growing up and her family members. She really enjoyed her niece, Cynthia Webster, who called and visited regularly. She especially enjoyed time spent with her best friend, her oldest daughter, Annie Mullins Dunn, who cared for her unselfishly and retired when Patsy became unable to care for herself. She loved calling her name, ANNIE! They were actually each other's best friend. She also enjoyed having her daughter, Marilyn Mullins, who was deaf and unable to speak, care for her. They had a special and unique relationship. Although Patsy never learned to use sign language, she never treated her as if she was deaf. She verbally talked to Marilyn as she did with her other children. If you said Momma, "Marilyn can't hear you," she would reply, "Marilyn heard me!", which was funny in itself. They had their own means of communicating with each other and it worked.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her beloved children, Shirley Temple Mullins and Von Braska Coffey; her cherished siblings, Sammie Mullins, Bessie Mae Mullins, John Burt Mullins, Cornelia Randolph Jackson, Ollie Mae Hudson, A.C. Mastin, John Mastin, Nehemiah Mastin, James Mastin, and Rev. Lewis Randolph, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Rev. Henry Ewing, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Annie Mullins Dunn, Marilyn Mullins, and K'Dyn Coffey of Leighton, Alabama; Thomas Coffey (Cyrea) of Decatur, Alabama; Athena Newsome of Nashville, Tennessee; Joyce Coffey Grant of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Christopher Coffey (Ashley) of Houston, Texas.

She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren: Primus Pruitt, Darius Mullins, Darecus Mullins, Carlos Fort, Derrick Newsome II, Kolby Newsome, Derickus Lewis, Lionel Grant, III, Ashton Coffey, Jessica Dunn, Jasmon Harris (Keginald), Drs. Justice Grant Hypolite (Bryan), Essence Newsome, and Caterra Coffey; and her bonus grandson, Hudson Dill.

Additional survivors include her siblings, Linda Hamilton, Catherine Thomas, Geneva (Abekesisia) Eberchuku, and Betty Walker; her sister-in-laws, Jewel Faye Ewing Edna Bell Mastin; and a very special niece, Cynthia Jackson Webster. She also leaves a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, foster children, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.

Though she has earned her eternal rest, Patsy's legacy of faith, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift, remembered always as the Queen she truly was.

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning."

~Psalm 30:5
