Patsy Cox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hadley Funeral Home - Windsor on Nov. 26, 2024.
Patsy Jean (Hix) Cox, age 88, of rural Leeton, Missouri, passed away peacefully at Meyer Care Center, Higginsville, Mo., on Monday, November 25, 2024. Patsy was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and a caring sister and friend to everyone who knew her.
She was born June 11, 1936, in Macks Creek, Mo., the daughter of John Henry Hix and Odessa Iva (Schoonover) Hix. She graduated from Calhoun High School and met and married William Keith "Bill" Cox on November 4, 1955 in Kansas City, Mo. They shared 67 years of marriage, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2022.
Patsy worked at Montgomery Ward in Kansas City until she and Bill moved to Leeton and made their home on what would become the family farm. She lovingly cared for a large garden and enjoyed raising chickens. Weekly trips to town allowed her to share the bounty of her garden and chickens by sharing vegetables and eggs with family and friends.
She worked at the Leeton school for 15 years as head cook where she considered each student as a member of her extended family. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, Leeton. She served in many ways, but especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School and during Vacation Bible School.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers, Dale Hix, Von Hix, Keith Hix, Stanley Hix, and Dwight Hix; and 4 sisters, Shirley Reed, Marilyn White, Phyllis Deardueff, and Virgie Harms.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Cox and Larry Cox (Kim); her grandchildren Carmen Cox, Lexie (Cox) Gillotti (Dominick), and Quincy Cox; a great-granddaughter, Lindy Gillotti; 2 brothers, Hoyt Hix (Sammie) and Ron Hix; a sister, Kay Cox (Gerald); 2 sisters-in-law, Gwen Hix and Nadine Gist; a brother-in-law, Claire Reed; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and extended family. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, Leeton, with Pastor Chris Emerson officiating. Burial will be in the Mineral Creek Cemetery, Leeton. The family will receive friends before the service from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Friends may pay their respects Friday, November 29, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
