TRACY – John W. Tracy, Jr., 43, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023 after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. He was born on September 22, 1979 in Bronx, NY; the son of Diane (Fischer) Tracy and the late John William Tracy.
John lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed doing things you told him he could not do. He had many skills and hobbies including, hunting, scuba diving, painting, working with leather and woodworking. Despite his physical disability, John was an avid and skilled shooter and won an award for best marksmanship in his high school's JROTC chapter He was also well known for his hobby of buying and driving fast cars and trucks.
John loved all animals and had cats and dogs throughout his life. His service dogs Sancho, and most recently "Z," were his constant companions along with his beloved dog Winnie and his cat, "Sack." John had a wide network of friends in Winsted and Torrington area and around the country. John was a member of several organizations that were primarily made up of Military and Law Enforcement veterans. He also would Sponsor an annual Veterans SCUBA event in Florida every year. His absence will be sorely missed by so many.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Paul Tracy and his wife Alicelda of NY; two nephews, Paul John Tracy and Benjamin Tracy, both of NY; extended family and his very close friends, Rachel Douglas Gagnon and Christopher & Diana Byrne.
Friends may call on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 4 – 7 PM and Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the funeral home from 9 – 10 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main Street, Torrington at 11 AM. A Celebration of John's life will be held at AJ's restaurant, 171 Torrington Road, (Rte 4 West) Goshen, CT 06756 at 1 PM following the services. All are welcome.
