Patsy Kreikemeier

Mass of Christian Burial for Patsy Kreikemeier age 91 of West Point, NE will be on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church-Monterey, rural West Point, NE with interment in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Nielsen Community Center in West Point, NE. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Patsy passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Meridian Gardens in Columbus, NE.

Patsy was born July 12, 1934 to Alois and Mary (Pacas) Bures on the family farm near Dodge, Nebraska where she grew up with her 4 older brothers and 4 older sisters. On July 15, 1952 she married Anton J. "Tony" Kreikemeier at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. While raising six kids on the Kreikemeier farm north of Snyder, she found time to square dance with Tony -sometimes right there in the big barn on the farm.

She loved bowling. It must have been a Bures family thing because she traveled to tournaments all over the country - often with her sisters.

Her baking was legendary, especially her filled horns - a Bohemian treat that often earned her grand champion honors at the county fair. But she may be most famous (at least to hergrandkids) for her coffee cake and banana cake - those recipes will live on for many generations.

There's no way to estimate how many things she created with her sewing machine - including

most of her and her family's clothing. Most of the kids didn't have store-bought clothes until they got to high school. Some called Patsy a super seamstress, others said she was sweet or stubborn or spunky. She was all three. Just ask her co-founders of the Liberated Lassies Extension Club - the name says it all, right?

She learned to crochet from her mom - and she could almost do it in her sleep. From doilies to bibs, pot holders, lampshades, ring bearer pillows and flower girl baskets. County fair grand champion pillows. She even had an online store where she sold crocheted names - often for weddings - for $2 a letter. She made good money on the 11-letter 'Kreikemeier' weddings.

She loved travelling to visit her kids when they moved to Texas and Colorado and Idaho and

Montana and Washington - and more recently, Tennessee. One of her favorite trips though, was

to see Bob Barker and the 'Price is Right' TV show with just Tony and the 5 kids. Of course she

sewed the whole family matching shirts so everyone looked good on TV. 'Come on down..."

Her creativity was endless - helping Tony build the Kreikemeier Krafts business into an almost

every weekend gig. From oak quilt racks, doll cradles and doll houses, to napkin holders,

shelves, coat hangers and clocks. While Tony did the measuring and sawing, Patsy was there to

sand, stain and finish - making sure everything looked just right. The ever-dedicated head of

quality control. And all the while, supporting her kids in whatever ways she could. Driving them

to science fairs and horse shows. Raising money selling cucumbers. Helping with 4-H projects

and making sure those record books got done. And done right.

After Tony's passing in 2012, she kept busy on the farm putting the miles on her zero-turn mower, taking care of her immaculate lawn and landscaping. She sometimes enlisted the 'help' of her kids and grandkids - but not too much help. Again, that quality control.

She loved sitting on the front porch on her farm watching the neighbors come and go, and

keeping an eye on the donkey - sometimes the chickens too.

Her family will always remember how willing she was to help in whatever wild projects her kids could dream up. From homemade go-carts, hang gliders and rock-and-roll bands, to

reupholstering car seats and sewing bell bottoms onto blue jeans.

Everything was made better if she had a hand in it.

Patsy was preceded in death by her husband Tony in 2012, her son Mark in 1966, brothers

Rudy, Lumir, Louis and Eddie, sisters Libby, Mildred, and Blanche.
