Patsy Jean Mathews, lovingly known as “Mammaw,” age 90, of Temple, Texas, formerly of Gatesville, Texas, entered into the presence of her Lord on December 26, 2025, while residing at Cornerstone Gardens in Temple.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Gatesville Masonic Cemetery with Pastor Charles McKamie officiating.
Born June 22, 1935, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was the youngest of five children born to Lena Pearl Hulsey (Kilgo) and Francis Marion Hulsey. Patsy lived a life marked by faith, strength, and joyful service. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Bonnie Sue Mobley of Harker Heights, Texas, whom she raised with perseverance, courage, and unwavering love.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Arvel Mathews; and her siblings Edith Pitts (Hulsey), Sherman, Leon, and Harold Hulsey.
She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Sue Mobley; grandchildren Holly Diane Bunting (Warren Bunting) and Michelle Renee Mobley; and great-grandchildren Olivia Grace Bunting and Victoria Leigh Bunting.
Music was one of the clearest expressions of Patsy’s faith and one of God’s greatest gifts to her. An accomplished pianist and organist, she faithfully served in church choirs throughout her life and was a member of the Coryell County Jubilee Quartet. She served as Director of the Gatesville Senior Center until her retirement in 1999, and later as Secretary of Live Oak Baptist Church. Alongside her husband, she helped establish the Escapees Sams RV Club in Gatesville. She was also an outstanding Girl Scout Leader!
Patsy loved traveling, reading, crafting, dogs, and laughter, and was known for her quick wit, infectious joy, and servant’s heart. Her life was a living testimony of faith, love, and perseverance, and her legacy will continue through the music she played, the lives she touched, and the family she cherished.
