Patsy Ulon Schwanke Miller

A Spiritual Journey Celebrated

On the gentle wings of dawn, Patsy Ulon Schwanke Miller slipped quietly into eternity on August 31, 2025, the same way she lived — with grace, generosity, and a deep, abiding faith.

Funeral Services will be held Friday September 5, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Grand View Funeral Home, Rev. Stephen Albers will officiate, and burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.

A visitation celebrating Patsy's life will be Thursday September 4, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Grand View Funeral Home.

Born on January 22, 1932, to William and Wilma Schwanke, Patsy’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a steadfast spirit rooted in Rensselaer, MO.

Patsy's story is one of devotion — first, to her beloved husband Carl Gene Miller, whom she married on November 23, 1949, in Hannibal, Missouri. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love, weathering life’s joys and sorrows hand in hand until Carl preceded her in death on June 2, 2006. Together, they built a sanctuary where faith, family, and friendship flourished under Patsy’s ever-welcoming roof.

Each member of her family carries a spark of her boundless spirit, playing a treasured role in the family’s circle. Her legacy shines on in her devoted family. Children: Debby (Norman) Kendrick and Mickey (Doris) Miller; Grandchildren: Amanda (Brian) Wosman, Jessica (Brandon) Sublette, Carla (Doug) Meyers, Jackie (Jamie) McGinness, Clinton (Tiffany) Miller, Jocey (Ross) Bennett, Andrea Miller, Julie (Alex) Ginos, Avery Miller, and Addison Miller; Great-grandchildren: Haleigh (Gabe) McKenzie, Nolan (Robby) Wosman, Laithan, Olivia, Mallory and Brody Sublette, Zane, Zeke and Zola Meyers, Luke, Maggie, Samuel and Grant McGinness, Korbyn and Ella-Nora Bonner, Jaynee and Brayton Miller, Caroline, Michael, John, Clark and Claire Bennett, Drew Copenhaver, Gavin, Oliver, Evelyn and Avril Ginos; Great-great grandchild: Miller McKenzie. She will also be missed by siblings: Bettie Geist (Jay Raney), Dean Schwanke, Kenneth (Sharon) Schwanke, Martha Gough, Ardyth (Bobby) Smashey, and Margaret (Lindell) Crabill.

Patsy's heart bore the weight of loss with courage and unimaginable strength — she now joins her parents, husband Carl, their cherished children Carl Dean, Dana, and Darin Miller, and her siblings Bill Schwanke, Vonnie Miller, Melba Bowles, John Schwanke, and Evelyn Peuster in joyous reunion.

Faith was her compass and scripture her song. Twice she read the Bible from cover to cover, not as an obligation, but as a pilgrimage — one that deepened her compassion and wisdom and shaped her as a Sunday School teacher whose lessons linger in generations of hearts. Her gentle humor and keen intellect made her a formidable Scrabble player, a published writer, and a determined debater of genealogy — always seeking truth and connection.

Patsy lived hospitably. Her door was never locked to her family, friends, or neighbors, and her kitchen always danced with the aroma of homemade bread, chocolate layered desserts, and the treasured tradition of Sunday dinners. When she wasn't “spilling the tea”, she was adding more sugar to it for Carl! Summers were spent swimming in her pool and enjoying “Tent City” where she gathered all her family to camp together in her front yard.

Her life was adorned with simple joys — card parties with sisters, days as a Cashmere Soap model, the thrill of travel to every state but two, predicting American Idol winners and watching Family Feud (pre-Steve Harvey). She delighted in the miracles of ordinary days, finding glory in a rural sunset and stories in a cloud.

Patsy's was a love that lives on in every story shared, every recipe passed down, every prayer whispered for the generations to come. As in Proverbs 31, “Her children arise and call her blessed.”

Clinton Miller, Avery Miller, Addison Miller, Brian Wosman, Brandon Sublette, Doug Meyers, Jamie McGinness, Ross Bennett, and Alex Ginos will serve as pallbearers, with Patsy’s great-grandchildren being honorary pallbearers.

Memorial contributions can be made to Solid Rock Baptist Church, Big Creek Presbyterian Church, or Palmyra United Methodist Church.

P.S. - Has anyone seen the blue dress we were supposed to bury her in, because we can't find it!
