Patsy “Pat” Murray, 90, of Pampa, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026 in Pampa.
Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 6, 2026 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Jimmye Cole and Rev. Wesley Vernatter, Pat’s son-in-law, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 6:00-7:30 PM.
Pat was born August 21, 1935 in Canadian to John and Myrtle Wheeler. She graduated from Canadian High School in 1953. On December 31, 1953, she married T.L. “Lee” Murray in Canadian, and they have celebrated their 66th anniversary before he passed away on June 12, 2020. In 1955, they moved to Pampa and began their family of 4 children. Pat loved being a stay home mom, she was able to be very involved in all her kids’ activities such as PTA and Boys Scouts.
Pat had strong Christian values and loved the Lord. She was a longtime member of Briarwood Church. Over the years she worked in children’s church and taught Sunday School. Pat was very traditional and strict with her children and grandchildren as they grew up. She wanted them to learn proper etiquette and have manners. Pat was a people person who never met a stranger, she enjoyed visiting and gathering information about everyone. She loved to work on genealogy.
She enjoyed traveling to the Cabot Ranch and seeing the beautiful mountains. Pat spent many hours feeding and just watching the birds. Her and Lee would also spend a lot of time traveling to the valley during the winter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Elmo Wheeler, Tony Wheeler, Paul Wheeler, and Clyce Wheeler; and a daughter, Penney Vernatter.
Survivors include 3 sons, Harold Murray and wife Debbie of Pampa, Dirk Murray of Junction, and Joe Murray and wife Sherri of Pampa; son-in-law, Wesley Vernatter of Pampa; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Vernatter and wife Bella of Westown, NY, Daniel Vernatter and wife April of Mustang, Oklahoma, Angela Bentley and husband Heath of Pampa, Matthew Murray and wife Kendall of Canyon, Melody Twombley and husband Chase of San Angelo, Tera Lavrenz and husband Chris of Lefors, Mark Murray and wife Erin of Lubbock, Hannah Shultz and husband Adam of Pampa, Andrew Vernatter and wife Alexis of Vienna, WV, Jonathan Murray and wife Anna of Arlington, Zach Murray and wife Amy of Pampa, and Peter Vernatter of Davisville, WV; three step-grandchildren, Michael Cochran of Amarillo; Tanner Cochran and wife Kristin of Pampa, Macy Smith and husband Clay of Amarillo; and 36 great grandchildren.
