Patsy Raschiatore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dunmire-Kerr and Rowe Funeral Home, Inc. on Jun. 3, 2025.
Patsy F. Raschiatore, 90, of West Leechburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at his home. He was born July 20, 1934, in East Vandergrift to the late Anthony and Theresa (Magaro) Raschiatore. Patsy served his country proudly with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was extremely proud of his service and quick to admit that he made sure to keep his troops in line and their barracks tidy. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from I.U.P. and would later earn his Masters Degree in Education from Duquesne University. He spoke affectionately of his time in school and always stressed the importance of education and knowledge to his family. Patsy retired in 1993 after 37 years of teaching in the Kiski Area School District. While he was widely known for teaching mathematics, he also taught Science and History during his tenure. The majority of his teaching career at Kiski was spent at the former Vandergrift Junior High School, but he later taught at the Kiski Intermediate School, adjacent to the Kiski Senior High School. Patsy was a member of St. Gertrude R.C. Church, Sons of Italy, and the American Legion, all in Vandergrift. He spent countless evenings playing bocci, shooting pool, and enjoying spaghetti dinners with his friends. Patsy was well-known throughout the area, volunteering for many years with a variety of Kiski sports. He is best remembered keeping stats for the basketball games, selling football tickets and keeping the peace in the preferred seating at Davis field, and was a fixture at Kiski's track, both on and off-season. He enjoyed being outside in his garden with his cats and doing yard work to keep his home well-landscaped. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and was a huge WWII, History, and Geography buff. Patsy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen M. (Liska) Raschiatore, daughter, Patricia (John) Doherty, of Pittsburgh, and by his grandson, Patrick John "PJ" Doherty. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Andrew Recchia of Vandergrift, and his three favorite nephews Peter, Anthony, and Christopher Recchia and their families. In addition to his parents, Patsy was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Marie Recchia.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of a blessing service at 2:00 p.m. in the Dunmire-Kerr & Rowe Funeral Home, Inc., 244 Franklin Avenue, Vandergrift. Officiating will be the Rev. Alan Polczynski. Burial will be private. Military honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.

He was my math teacher in 9th grade math class. I remember once he caught me and my friend writing notes during his class. He quickly confiscated the note we were passing but not before he read it out load to the entire class...lol
He was an exceptional teacher and I really liked having him as my teacher. He was a blessing to any student who had him as their teacher!
Rest in Peace....

A friend and a mentor to me--he always told it the way that he saw it. Rest in peace.

Helen, Patricia, Patrick & Family,
Each winter beginning in 2002, I sat next to Patsy at the scorer's table for varsity boys/girls basketball games. He ran the game clock and I handled the score & fouls. During the 50 years in which he manned that table, I am one of many that were blessed to get to know him. As a fellow math teacher and sports enthusiast, Patsy shared much wisdom with me during the conversations that we shared. He was a good man that had a positive impact on me as a young teacher. Your family is in my thoughts & prayers. Sincerely, Zach Jankowski
