LaVERNE MEEHAN Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brickman Bros. Funeral Home - Willoughby on Feb. 22, 2026.
LaVerne Meehan, age 85, passed away on February 21, 2026 in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. She was born October 28, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio.

LaVerne was the loving wife of James (deceased), and mother of James (Denise), David (Beth) and Laura Smalheer (Mike); grandmother of Kyle Meehan (deceased), Eric Meehan, Kevin Meehan, JB Smalheer and Tyler Smalheer; daughter of the late Walter Krukemeier and Marie (nee Sinko); sister of Clifford (Vera) Krukemeier, sister-in-law of Ann (deceased), Thomas (deceased) and John (Judy); aunt of Ben (Christina) Meehan, Joe (Kristen) Meehan, Kelli (Mark) Milos, Greg Krukemeier and Michael (Brenda) Krukemeier.

LaVerne had a gentle spirit and a joyful heart, touching everyone who knew her. Jim recognized that instantly when they began their lives together, meeting while roller skating at Euclid Beach Park. They were married for 65 years.

LaVerne found wonder in the simple, beautiful things of this world. She was an avid watcher of birds, catching a glimpse of the robins on the lawn or cardinals perching in the trees. She recognized their songs and delighted in the flutter of wings outside her window. Her garden was her sanctuary, where flowers of every color bloomed under her patient care.

Music filled the family home because of her. Whether it was on the organ, a classic tune by Johnny Mathis, or the timeless melodies of Neil Diamond, she would sway along doing the daily tasks of a dedicated mother and wife. LaVerne and Jim shared the joy of attending concerts at the Front Row and Cain Park.

LaVerne's hands were rarely still. She was a gifted crafter who could transform scraps of fabric, paper and ribbon into treasures. But perhaps her most cherished creations were the dollhouses she built alongside Jim with extraordinary patience and imagination. Each tiny room was crafted with love, wallpaper chosen carefully, miniature furniture placed just so. In those dollhouses, she created worlds of comfort and warmth.

Above all, LaVerne was love. She listened patiently, offering guidance and a healthy amount of skepticism. She taught us kindness by example, showing that beauty is something you cultivate in gardens, in hobbies, and most importantly, in relationships. The perseverance she demonstrated throughout her life is an inspiration to all.

A graveside service with family members and friends will be held on Wednesday Feb. 25, 2026 at 1 PM at All Souls Cemetery, 10366 Euclid – Chardon Rd. in Chardon, Ohio (PLEASE MEET AT MAIN ENTRANCE).

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be appreciated.
