Patsy Seaman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care on Apr. 29, 2024.
Patsy Ruth (Francis) Seaman passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 at Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames, Iowa.
Patsy was born June 8, 1931 in Westernport, Maryland to Eileen (Creasy) and Joseph Francis. After graduating from Bruce High School in 1949, she worked as the school's secretary. Mutual friends introduced her to Charles Edward Seaman, the church organist who had recently returned from WWII. The couple was married on June 19, 1954. After spending a few years in Philadelphia where Ed completed his master's degree in education, the couple relocated to Randolph, New Jersey, where Ed was hired as a high school science teacher. They raised their three children in a loving home filled with laughter and wonderful neighbors. The family spent summers at the YMCA Camp Morris where Ed managed the waterfront and swimming lessons, followed by camping at the Jersey shore with friends. During the years of the space race, Ed took advantage of opportunities for summer school programs for science teachers. The family spent summers at the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, and University of Maryland. While Ed was taking classes during the day, Pat entertained the three kids and explored these campuses. After the schools, the family had great adventures of camping in various state and national parks across the US.
Pat was a homemaker until her children were older. She worked several years in the trust department of the First National Bank in Dover, NJ, and as an administrative assistant for Youngelson & Simon law firm in Mendham. Pat was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover, where she taught Sunday school and was active in women's groups.
After retirement in 1987, Pat and Ed moved to Columbia, MO, where they spent several happy years as loving grandparents. They were very active at Fairview United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association, the Boone County Fair, and the Missouri Show-Me State Games. Pat and Ed formed great friendships in Columbia, and truly enjoyed their retirement years and grandparenting roles. They moved to Iowa in 2012 to be near their children, living first at Mill Pond retirement center in Ankeny and then Green Hills Retirement Center in Ames.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband. She is survived by her brother David (Beverly) Francis; children Charles (Renee) Seaman, Ruth (Ted) MacDonald, and David Seaman; grandchildren Michael (Emilie) Seaman, Merike (Will) McCormack, Neal (Clare) MacDonald, and Scott (Claire) Hofius MacDonald; great-grandchildren Asher, Remington and Wilhelmina Seaman, and Callum MacDonald; and nieces Lisa (Pete) Laramee and Heather (Chris) Bitely. She will be interred at Philos Cemetery in Westernport, Maryland.
