Patsy Ruth "Pat" Simpson Laney

Patsy "Pat" Ruth Laney, 80, passed away Monday June 23, 2025. She was born in Mecklenburg County, NC, May 15, 1945, daughter to the late Ray Simpson and Ruth Mills Simpson. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers Bobby Simpson (Kathy) and Chuck Simpson (Karen).
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday June 26, 2025, at Gordon Funeral Service.
A lifelong member of High Hill Primitive Baptist Church, she retired from a career in accounting and remained deeply committed to service through the Civitan Club and NC District Jr. Civitans. She found joy in volunteering with youth, especially at Parkwood High School, and was a constant supporter at her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Known for her love of baking-pecan pies and pound cakes were her specialty-she also cherished traveling, especially with close friends and her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jerry Lee Laney, two daughters Sharron Godfrey (Todd) and Terry Shaw (Wes), sister Libby Brooks (Dennis), five grandchildren, Kendall Godfrey, Landon Godfrey, Buck Shaw, Jackson Shaw, and Skylar Shaw.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Lee Park Church Dementia Caregiver Support Class, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
