Patsy Smith Obituary

Patsy Elizabeth Smith, age 73, of New Windsor died Saturday, June 24, 2023, after a five-year battle with dementia. Born September 16, 1949 in Burkittsville, MD she was the daughter of the late Floyd Lewis Corum and Garnetta Elizabeth Tice Corum.

For 20 years she was a wife, mother, and homemaker in Hyattsville before returning to Frederick, where she worked 2 years as a daycare provider and 26 years as a nursing assistant at Homewood and Citizens Health Care. She was a faithful member of the Salvation Army in Frederick, where she volunteered many hours at the thrift store. She enjoyed putting together angel bags at Christmas, Bible trivia and many other activities. She was known as a very generous person, and for singing "Happy Birthday" to many friends and family. Patsy enjoyed her trips to church camp, walking, sewing, reading, doing laundry, cleaning and spending time with family. One of her favorite things were her sister days, known as "The Golden Girls", where they often played cards and took trips to the casino.

Surviving are children Serena Chambers and husband William of New Windsor, Jason Smith and wife Cindy of Frederick, grandchildren Terrance Roberts and wife Peyton, Kelsie Chambers, Brodie, Noah and Evan Smith, great-grandson Wesson Smith, siblings Barbara Riley and husband Frank, and Linda Fowler, both of Myersville, Ricky Corum and wife Chrissy, and Floyd "Ole Dog" Corum and wife Peggy both of Frederick. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as special friends Wanda, Lisa, Carol, Candy, Sharon, Jerry and Linda, Samir, Jacki and Terry.

She was predeceased by husband Vernon J. Smith, siblings Gene, Randy and Faye Corum, brother-in-law Johnny "Big Buddy" Fowler, nephew Derek Riley, great-nephew Zach Lydard and great niece Brooke Riley.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 1p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home-Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Rd., Frederick, with Major Kelly English officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of BridingLife Hospice for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 223 W 5th St., Frederick, MD, 21701.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory on her "tribute wall" at www.hartzlerfuneralhome.com. Patsy Smith

So sorry for the loss of patsy she will always be reminded as one of the best red velvet cake makers. Of all time. So many memories of patsy and smithy when I grew up they were a big part of our lives. She's the most caring and loving person I ever have known. God bless her and the family. My prayers and thoughts are with them

Patsy was such a beacon of light whenever I worked at the SA Family Store for over 6 years. She was always beaming, would help customers no matter what, and always had many kind and uplifting words to say to me, as well as others. I will miss her so much, but know she is with Jesus, which she so much was welcoming at the start of this disease ( and me along with her!) Until we meet again dear Patsy, God Bless!

I´m so glad that I met "Little Patsy", through our volunteering with The Salvation Army. We talked and shared life stories, but we mostly laughed a lot! What a dear person to count among my friends. My sympathies to her family and friends. The world has lost a ray of sunshine! So sorry that I was away and couldn´t attend her final services. RIP, dear Patsy.

My condolences in the passing of Patsy. I woked with her for many years at Homewood. She was very sweet, hardwork and with a jovial disposition.

Patsy took care of my dad when he was at Citizens. She was a breath of fresh air, always smiling.Such a sweet lady and it saddens me so to see that this bright light has been extinguished way too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as they navigate life without this kind soul

To My Aunt Patsy,
You were so selfless and caring. You were always there for someone if they needed something. You loved your family, you loved church, you loved all things related to God. You are an angel, and may your wings spread far and wide. I Love You!!!
