Patsy LeWonna Ward was born in
Vero Beach, Florida on August 25, 1955, to the late Leatha Mae Ward and Lawyer Smith. She was an only child. She was introduced to a Christian life first in her home and secondly at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in
Gifford, Florida. Home was the house on 31st, where she was truly a friend to all.
Patsy received her education in the Indian River County School System. She excelled academically, graduating from Vero Beach Senior High School home of the "Mighty Class of 1974". She was a member of numerous academic clubs and social organizations. She continued her education at Indian River Junior College in
Fort Pierce, Florida.
She enjoyed a fulfilling career in law enforcement. She was employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice System as a Corrections Officer. Most recently, in 2021 she retired from the Indian River County Sheriff Department. Patsy met and made many friends during her professional career. She enjoyed talking, making others laugh while being very "direct". Patsy could walk into a room of strangers and leave the room with "10" new friends. She truly had a heart of gold!
Patsy was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Usher. She truly lived the life she sang and talked about. After being showed with messages of love, hymns of praise, inspiration and prayers, she went home to be with the Lord on the evening of March 25, 2023. She has now transition from her labor to reward.
She was married to Samuel Jackson who preceded her in death along with her parents, brother Elder B. Williams.
The heart always has room for precious memories. Those left to cherish her memories her: sister Estelle Williams of Rocelle, NY and numerous cousins and friends. Forever memories are left with childhood friends; Debra Davis Taylor,
Melbourne, FL; Lynn Poitier-Owens,
Nashville, TN and Carol Carter of Atlanta, GA.
Public visitation for Patsy LeWanna Ward will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Stone Brothers Funeral Chapel in
Vero Beach, FL. Funeral Services will convene on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in
Vero Beach, FL beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Gifford Cemetery.
