Patti Byars

On Aug. 3, 1941, Patti Joyce Wilson was born to Golmer Catherine Wilson and BJ Wilson, of Jonesboro. Patti passed from this world on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, in St Petersburg, Florida.

She married Harry B. Byars Jr. on June 7, 1963.

She is survived by her two children, Todd W. Byars (Sandy) and Jennifer Paige Byars; and one grandchild, Katherine Elizabeth Falvey. Patti is also survived by her brother Buron "Jed" Wilson (Brenda).

Patti graduated from UGA in 1963. She was a member of the Georgia Redcoat Band. After getting her degree, Patti was a public school teacher in the elementary and middle schools of the Fulton County School System, including the summer programs. In the college of education at several universities, Patti was a supervisor of intern teachers and evaluations. Over the decades, Patti supervised over 200 student teachers.

While at Florida State University as an intern supervisor, Patti established a scholarship for single mothers to fund their student teaching semester. Patti W. Byars was interred on Oct. 7, 2025, at Camp Memorial Park, next to her husband, Harry B. Byars, after a private family service in the family plot, in Fayetteville.
