Paul E. Badey

Paul Badey, 88, of Media, Pennsylvania, died Friday, December 5.
Paul lived in Media for 64 years with his wife of 65 years, Christel Badey. He is also survived, and will be deeply missed, by his children, Karen (Volkan) Goren and Suzan Stern; his four grandchildren and their partners; and his great-grandson.
Born and raised in New York City to Carolyn and Edward Badey, Paul graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School and went on to attend The Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, receiving a degree in mechanical engineering. He spent his career as an engineer in General Electric's switchgear department, where he earned several awards and patents.
A lifelong learner, Paul later received his Master's degree in Computer Science from Villanova University. After retiring at the age of 60, he took classes in painting and drawing, traveled to Germany alone for a language program at the Goethe-Institut, and was never seen without a book in hand. Paul was known for his curious mind and creative spirit. He was called "Mr. Fix-It" by those close to him, played the banjo and piano with his grandchildren, and loved spending time in nature, caring for the backyard birds and the fish in his pond.
Paul enjoyed volunteering to help seniors with their taxes and fixing broken books in the Delaware County Library system. He was also a dedicated member of The Delaware Valley Arts League.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 11am at Reformation Lutheran Church in Media, PA, with friend of the family Pastor Fred Weidmann officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paul's honor may be directed to the Union of Concerned Scientists, Public Citizen, and the American Civil Liberty Union.
