Paul Richard "Dick" Baker, passed away on October 30, 2013 after a lengthy affliction with cancer. He was the son of Paul Robert and Emma Mae (House) Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert. Mr. Baker was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Waynesboro for all of his 89 years, and was well-known for his deep and life-long devotion to his faith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Phyllis L. (Hollinger) Baker. He met his sweetheart at the Cold Springs Park Roller Rink, where he was a floor manager. They married in 1944. He served in battle in World War II in France and Germany, and was the oldest living Past-Commander of Waynesboro VFW Post 695, having served in that capacity in 1958. He was in the automotive parts business for most of his life, as parts manager at Brake Pontiac/Cadillac for years, and with Waynesboro NAPA Auto Parts on South Potomac Street. Prior to his retirement, he managed the Freeman Outlet Shoe Store on Walnut Street. In their younger years, Dick and Phyllis loved travelling to Atlantic City back in its heyday. In the prime of their life, they found an interest in ballroom dancing, and became accomplished at it. He also enjoyed finance and investing, and philanthropy to organizations caring for those in need. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gary and his companion Cathy Trei of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Heidi Wheeler and her husband Jeff; and two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Nathan. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 1, 2013 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro.
