Paul Baumgardner Obituary

Paul H. Baumgardner, a cherished resident of Washington, passed away peacefully Friday, January 16, 2026, with his daughter by his side. He was born October 13, 1930, in Washington, where he later devoted his life to family, farming, and service. For 35 years, Paul drove a truck for Dillie Motor Freights, a position that exemplified his hardworking nature. His dedication to labor was mirrored in his personal life, where he found joy and purpose working on his farm, raising Hereford cows, pigs, and chickens. Paul had a deep love for animals and took immense pride in cultivating his land. Many will fondly remember the Sunday dinners spent on the farm, where family and friends gathered to enjoy each other's company and celebrate life. Education was important to Paul, who attended John F. Kennedy High School. His commitment to service extended beyond his career, as he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the 35th Infantry Regiment. Paul earned a silver star for his commendable service in five approved Korean War campaigns. Loved ones knew Paul as a selfless man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. His love for farming was accompanied by a passion for community involvement, as he served as a 4-H leader for the Golden Hoofs and Pleasant Valley Horse Club. Paul also enjoyed going out to breakfast, where he cherished simple meals filled with good conversation and laughter. Paul's legacy is enriched by the relationships he nurtured throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly (Billy) Alderson; sons-in- law, Buck Moriarty and Rodney Maze; grandson, Jason (Kris) Whipkey; stepdaughter, Gayle (Bill) Vidman; and his loyal dog and companion, Mitsi. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Helen Kelly Baumgardner, whom he married December 28, 1953; his daughters, Debra Moriarty, Pamela Maze, and Judy Olivero; his brother, Carl (Dixie, deceased) Baumgardner; and son-in-law, Joe Olivero. Paul also experienced the profound loss of his second wife, Neleta, who passed away in 2021. Paul H. Baumgardner leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and devotion to his family and community. Paul's final resting place will be on his farm with his loving wife Helen.
