Paul Beller

Paul Beller, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at the age of 94.

Paul was born on November 20, 1931, in Vienna, Austria, the beloved son of the late Mina (Tennenbaum) Beller and Leo Beller. His early childhood was forever shaped by history when, at just seven years old, he was rescued in 1939 as part of the largest Kindertransport from Austria. This experience became a defining part of his life and his lifelong commitment to ensuring that the lessons of the Holocaust would never be forgotten.

Paul and his beloved wife, Glenda (Schwartz) Beller, built a life centered on family, learning, and community. Together they raised their three children in Baltimore, Maryland. In retirement, Paul and Glenda enjoyed an active and fulfilling life for the past 18 years in the Stonebridge community of Monroe Township, New Jersey.

One of Paul's greatest passions was Holocaust education. For decades, he spoke to schools, churches, and organizations, sharing his story so that future generations would understand the importance of tolerance, remembrance, and humanity. His dedication continued well into his 90s. In recent years, Paul and Glenda were invited by the President of Austria to attend a special dinner honoring individuals who have devoted their lives to educating others about the Holocaust. Paul was also interviewed as part of the HBO documentary "50 Children" which told the stories of Kindertransport survivors.

Paul spent his entire professional career serving the public through the federal government with the Medicare program's Health Care Financing Administration. He became widely respected as an expert in Medicare appeals. Upon retirement, Paul continued helping seniors as a volunteer to navigate complex Medicare denials, often succeeding in having decisions overturned and funds returned to people who desperately needed them. He kept a binder filled with heartfelt thank-you letters from individuals he never met but whose lives he helped improve. Remarkably, even in his 80s, judges continued to rely on his expertise in complicated appeals.

Paul had a curious mind and an enthusiasm for life. He loved discussing politics, current events, and football. Conversations with Paul were always lively, thoughtful, and enlightening. He had a gift for storytelling and a deep well of knowledge that left everyone around him learning something new.

He also had a lifelong love of the arts. Paul enjoyed acting and singing and continued performing in community theater productions well into his 90s. Another source of immense joy in his life was his beloved poodles-Pierre, Bingo, and Blue-all cherished members of the family.

Paul and Glenda shared a love of travel and adventure, visiting destinations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, and the Middle East, creating memories that enriched their lives and the stories Paul so loved to tell.

Paul is survived by his loving children Karen Brodsky (née Beller) and Eric Beller; his son-in-law Charles Brodsky and daughter-in-law Jodi Beller; his grandchildren Rachel Brodsky Barefoot, Deborah Levine, Brandon Beller, and Briana Beller, Shira Gryll, David Rosenfeld, Sammy Rosenfeld, Julia Kessler and Jackson Kessler; his grandsons-in-law Burton Levine and Taylor Barefoot; and great-grandchildren Leah and Noah Levine; Chava, Yisroel, Yocheved, Temima, Simcha, Shalom, and Leah Gryll; and Zehava, Naama, and Itai Mordechai Rosenfeld. He is also survived by dear cousins and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Paul will be remembered for his resilience, intellect, humor, and kindness. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life story and values left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

Funeral services are Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township, NJ. Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 104 Deans Rhode Hall Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852 in the Garden of the Prophets.

The family will sit shiva at the home of Eric and Jodi Beller, 120 Old Well Road, Purchase, New York, on Sunday, March 15 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Monday, March 16 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Services will be held at 7:30 pm on these days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul's memory to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum or The Fund for Penn Medicine.
