OTTAWA – Paul A. Bensman, 78, of Ottawa died Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his residence. He was born July 20, 1944 in Lima to the late Alfred and Rosemary (Hershey) Bensman. On May 8, 1965, he married JoAnn M. Schreiber, who preceded him in death on March 14, 2007.
He is survived by 4 children: Chris (Tracy) Stechschulte and Alan (Anita) Bensman, both of Ottawa, Shelly (Vinny) White of Orange City, FL and David (Amy) Bensman of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren: Keri (Abbot) Carder, Mike (Allison Sickle) Stechschulte, Holly (Greg) Recker, Andrew Trenkamp, Hailey (Nate Gammon) Potts, Jacob Potts, Skyler White, Hunter White, Marissa (Wade) Schimmoeller and Solomon Bensman; 4 great-grandchildren: Joanna and Logan Carder, Benji Barnes and Charlie Schimmoeller; 2 sisters: Janet (Jim) Niedecken of Ottoville and Laure (Mike) Swejk of Tallmadge; and a sister-in-law: Karen Bensman of New Breman.
He is preceded in death by a brother: John Bensman.
Paul retired from Phillips ECG, Ottawa and was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. He retired from the Ottawa Fire Department after 25 years and was still serving in its reserves. Paul was a member of the Ottawa Eagles and enjoyed golfing, bowling and motorcycles.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home. There will be an Ottawa Fire Association service at 7:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. at the funeral home.
