Paul A. Douglas, 65 of Lake Park (formerly of Dilworth, MN) passed away early in the morning at his home September 8th, 2024. Paul was the youngest child of 5, born to Arlo and Delores Douglas. He grew up in Dilworth, and graduated from Dilworth High School.
On August 15th, 1981, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Kristy Larson. They made Dilworth their home for over 30 years where they raised their two sons, Patrick and Jared.
Paul started his 41-year career with the BNSF railroad starting out with the track department and ended as a Road Foreman of Engines. One of his favorite responses to people when they complained about their job was “It’s good to have a job”. He retired in September 2019, and got his dream lake home. He and Kristy took a break from the cold Minnesota winters relaxing in Arizona with family and their new happy hour friends.
Paul loved spending time with and entertaining family and friends, always greeting them with an “Hola”. He loved making people happy, joking and pranking, but most of all, he was kind and caring. He especially loved being Papa Paul to Lucy and Isaac. He cherished his friendships and time spent with the 5th Street bunch. Some of his passions were canning salsa, lefse and caramel making, carving Diamond Willow walking sticks, using his pellet grill to try new recipes, playing games, fishing, deer hunting, and poker night with friends. He loved his cats, supporting area animal rescues, and even ending up adopting one.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Kristy, and sons, Patrick and Tasha Douglas, Barnesville, Jared Douglas and girlfriend Anna Cordes, Hawley; grandchildren Isaac and Lucy Douglas, Barnesville; mother, Delores “Penny” Douglas, Dilworth; siblings, Mike and Kathy Douglas, Pelican Rapids, Debi and Jeff Dawson, Dilworth, Dave and Monica Douglas, Audubon, Sheila Burns and friend Curt Larson; brothers/sisters-in-law, Mark and Deb Larson, Moorhead, Terry and Patty Doeden, Hawley, Chris and Lori Wixo, Lake Park, Barry and Kari Lindblom, Pelican Rapids, Paul and Barb Charest, Washington; cats Rocko and Mickey, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Arlo Douglas, brother-in-law Rich Burns, in-laws Leonard and Theresa Larson, and several beloved cats.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 3:00 P.M., with visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., at Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN. Final resting place will be the columbarium at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
Paul was never a formal guy, so to celebrate his life, please feel free to wear bright colored Hawaiian shirts, Bison or Vikings gear.
The service will be livestreamed here on Paul's webpage.
