Paul Dunbar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by F.L. Sims Funeral Home-White Columns Chapel - Mableton/Austell on Jan. 6, 2026.
Paul Benjamin Dunbar Sr., age 50, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on July 3, 1975, in Augusta, Georgia, Paul was raised in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he developed the strong work ethic and dedication that would define his life.
Paul was a man of exceptional skill and unwavering commitment. For 25 years, he built a distinguished career in heavy hauling and driving lowboys, work that demanded precision, expertise, and steadfast reliability-qualities Paul possessed in abundance. He took immense pride in his work at Yancey Caterpillar, a company he didn't just work for but loved deeply. From Yancey stickers on the doors at home to wearing and gifting their company gear as Christmas presents, Paul's commitment to Yancey Caterpillar was matched only by their commitment to him.
A perfectionist in his craft, Paul was known for his signature saying, "They don't see me coming, "reflecting both his quiet strength and his exceptional skill. Those who worked under him knew he expected nothing less than excellence, because that's what he gave every single day. Paul was a provider, a protector, and a hard workingman with great skill in using his hands to build, fix, and create. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul was a man who loved with his whole heart. His quality. He loved big toys, grand gestures, and making memories. The 4th of July held special significance, as his birthday fell close to the holiday, and he made it his mission to give the neighborhood the biggest firework shows and the loudest bang every year.
Paul's love language was gift-giving. He always expressed his care through thoughtful, generous presents, ensuring those he loved felt cherished and valued. Whether it was family, friends, or his beloved children, Paul showed up fully and loved deeply.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother, RubyMae Dunbar, and his stepfather, Maurice Washington. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Lakesha Dunbar; his children, Paul Benjamin Dunbar Jr. (Latria Shamiyah Lee Dunbar), Zyon Dunbar, Logan Dunbar, Madison Heard (step-daughter), and Macie Dunbar; his bonus childlove Hamilton; his grandchildren, Kaci Marie Dunbar and Keani Josephine Dunbar; his biological father, Frank Larry; his mother who raised him, Geraldine Washington; his siblings, Melissa Carter, James and Andrea Johnson, Catherine Dunbar, Brad Dunbar, Frank and Janeen Mosquera, and John and Lateisha Mosquera; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever carry his memory.
Don't Weep for Me Don't weep for me, though I have gone away, I'm resting now in heaven's light of day. My pain is gone, my heart is finally free, God called me home-don't weep for me. I know your heart is heavy and you're sad, But think of all the happy times we had. Hold those memories close and you will see I'm always near-don't weep for me. The road ahead may feel so hard to walk, You'll miss my laugh, my smile, the way we'd talk. But I am whole and where I'm meant to be, At peace with God-don't weep for me. I'm not in pain, I'm not alone or scared, The angels came and showed me heaven's care. I'm waiting there for you so patiently, Until we meet-don't weep for me. So live your life with joy and carry on, And know my love for you is never gone. We'll be together for eternity, So dry your tears-don't weep for me. Acknowledgements The family

Benji - It still doesn´t feel real that I´m writing these words. Your departure was so sudden, a storm we never saw coming, and the world feels significantly quieter without your presence.
You weren't just my cousin; you were a testament to what it means to be a devoted husband and a hero to your children. The love you had for your wife and the kids was written in everything you did. While cancer may have taken you from us physically, it cannot touch the legacy of kindness and strength you planted in them.
Rest easy, knowing that we will be the village you always deserved. We will tell your stories, we will hold your family close, and we will make sure your kids always know how much their father loved them. You left us too soon, but you left us better for having known you.

Cousin Tammy, James, and Dallas

Ben and I weren´t close, but he was my brother, and his passing still weighs on me. I wish things had been different, and I´m holding space for what was and what wasn´t. I honor his life and offer my condolences to those who loved him deeply.
