Dr. Paul Dunscomb was perhaps my most difficult professor. He was certainly my most memorable. A precise thinker, an exacting taskmaster, a thoughtful and meticulous editor, Dr. Dunscomb modeled and demanded depth and clarity of thought. At the same time, he exuded infectious enthusiasm for his subject and a genuine warmth that was all the more appreciated for always feeling earned. I often annoyed him by writing answers that were longer than necessary. And I will do it one more time to conclude with a point that should be obvious to all who knew Paul: we lost someone truly special, and all too soon.
