Paul and I were close friends, starting in about the 5th-6th grade, in St. Helena's school in the Bronx. We lived quite near each other in Parkchester and hung out a lot. Then, in 1962, we were both accepted by Regis High School - for a few years, four of us always sat at the same lunch table: Paul, Mike Grady, John Dobrovolsky, and me. Paul was well-known in high school for excelling at track, all the while being a smoker. At that time, the high school actually had a smoking room for seniors.
Two pictures below: the 8th grade graduation picture is from June 1962. The one outdoors was taken in June 1961 at Ferry Point Park - Bronx-Whitestone bridge in the background.

My condolences. I was working at Heinz when he interviewed me for a position at SKB, which consisted of walking around the building a few times so he could smoke. He was a brilliant leader and whether in the office or playing golf on Fridays at Lindenwood he was charming and warm. May his memory be a blessing.
