Paul Kingbay Obituary

Paul Kingbay

Every Sunday Paul Curtis Kingbay religiously read the obituaries. When finished, he would turn to his longtime partner Denise and report, "I made the cut". Sadly, Paul, 79, missed the cut on November 8, passing away at home from cancer.

Paul was born on September 8,1946 in Minneapolis to Curtis and Laura Kingbay. He was preceded in death by his parents. Paul is survived by his partner Denise Finley, sons Kyle, Cory (Wendy), Chad (Ashley), grandchildren Carson, Caleb, Cooper, Case, and Carver and his sisters Carol Kuhl and Mary (John) Stubstad.

After graduating from Washburn High School and attending Mankato State, Paul joined the National Guard. It was during this time that he began his career in the Real Estate Development business. He had a gift for seeing a piece of land and drawing out a plan on a napkin. In later years, Paul liked driving by his old projects. His gift for telling stories attached to these projects was never ending, as were the embellishments that went along with the stories.

Growing up, Paul loved sailing his boat "Hurri King" on Lake Harriet, frequently entering competitions and earning several awards. Paul began his lifelong love affair with golf as a member of the Washburn High School golf team and competed in state competitions. Masters Sunday was Paul's favorite day of the year. Paul also enjoyed hunting, cooking and was passionate about playing video keno, and will be sadly missed by Dawn and Deb at the Sixer.

We would like to thank Dr. Steven Rousey and staff of MN Oncology - Waconia, Dr. Liz Aby and Jill Mays at Allina Health Cancer Institute - Minneapolis and the wonderful staff at St. Croix Hospice especially Itzel who helped dress Paul (who always dressed to impress) in his favorite color blue with a splash of his favorite cologne Kouros, before he made his final journey from his home. In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to St. Croix Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held on November 25 with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. service at 2 p.m. and reception to follow at the Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel. Bring your favorite Paul story and wear blue!
