Paul J. Koebele, 94, of
Marquette, MI, died peacefully May 8, 2024 at Mill Creek Senior Living Facility under the loving care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Paul was born September 5, 1929, in
Pocahontas, Iowa. He was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart High School and went on to serve four years in the United States Air Force. On June 6th, 1953, Paul married the love of his life, Joan, and they went on to have three children. After receiving his B.A. in Business Administration from Buena Vista College in
Storm Lake, IA, he joined the J.C. Penney Company. There he began his 33-year career managing stores throughout Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and eventually
Marquette, MI where he retired in 1990.
Paul was a proud member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he served as Minister of Communion, a member of the Finance Council, and counted Sunday collections for over 25 years. He was actively involved in the local community, serving on the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, and Rotary Club. Of his many hobbies, his true passion was the game of golf, which he played everyday weather would allow until 93 years of age. Paul especially loved to golf with his two sons. His other hobbies included walking, biking, skiing, wood carving, and he treasured his morning coffee visits with his wife Joan, daughter Jane, and many friends.
He is survived by his sister Kathryn Frantz; his three children, Dave (Mona) Koebele of Wayzata, MN, Bob (Kris) Koebele of
Waukesha, WI, and Jane Huffman of
Marquette, MI, along with grandchildren Scott (Ashleigh), Anne, Jennifer (Tyler), David, Laura (Jake), and Kristi (Dave), and great grandchildren Rory, Maelynn, and Natalie. He is preceded in death by parents Adolph and Clara Koebele, wife of 65 years, Joan, brothers Robert and Don, son-in-law Tom Huffman, and grandson, John.
Paul will be remembered by his family for having the kindest heart and the best sense of humor in any room. The Koebele family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Mill Creek Senior Living Facility who cared for Paul in his final years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 21st at 12 noon with the Rev. Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. The Koebele family will greet relatives and friends in the church beginning at 10 a.m until the time of the Mass. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Center. Rite of Committal will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Scott Koebele, David Koebele, Tyler Krzewina, Jake Theisse, David Hillock, Tom LaPenna, Lowell Meier, and John Mattis..
