Rev. Paul Edward Mayfield, Sr. 92, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025.

He was born in Bluntsville, Alabama and the son of the late Dewitt Talmage and Ethel Ruth Sparks Mayfield. Paul had been pastoring for over 72 years. He pastored in Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee, and local tri- state churches. He enjoyed working in his yard, cutting wood, and loved animals. Paul was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Gene Mayfield, and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Shirley Callahan Mayfield; two sons, Paul Mayfield, Jr. (Jimmie) of Knoxville, TN and Tommy Mayfield (Dianne) of Hayesville; one daughter, Mary Matheson (Buddy) of Hayesville; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Sunday, November 9, 2025 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville. Rev. Chris Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Hill Cemetery.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
