Paul Fetzer Nance Sr. passed into the presence of the Lord on December 25, 2023 surrounded by his family. Paul was born to Martha Layne Nance and Ethel Aaron Nance on April 8, 1936, the 7th of nine children. He graduated from Ruffin High School and Elon College.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Frances; brother Maynard Nance (Marie) and sister Sue Nance; sons Paul F. Nance Jr. (Linda) and David (Beth O’Bryant); daughters Cathie Rollins (John) and Pam Bowman. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren Crystal Guthrie (Jonathan), Candice Garner (Jon), Caleb Nance (Kim), John Paul Bowman (Haven), Dan Bowman, Johnny Rollins (Cecily), and Anna Campa (Luis); 4 great-grandchildren Ava, Jacey, and Quest Garner; Izabella Nance; sister-in-law Polly Durham. He leaves so many special nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who will remember his funny and loving demeanor.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jack (J.T.), and Ethel (Junior), and his sisters Mary McGee, Allene Kallam, Stella Moody, Alma Clark.
Paul worked in the textile industry at Burlington Industries, Fairystone Fabrics, and self-employed with Southern Sales & Distributors for many years. He was former Alamance County Assistant County Manager, Property/Business Manager of Burlington Outlet Mall, Business Manager at Elon College, and Project Manager/Campaign Auditor for United Way of Alamance and Caswell Counties.
Paul was very active in the community serving in Burlington Civitan Club, Salvation Army, and Alamance County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Alamance County Long Range Planning Task Force. His service to the Lord most recently included Director of Finance, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the Men's choir at Apple’s Chapel.
Paul always looked forward to one day seeing his Jesus, keeping his sweet spirit throughout his battle with Parkinson’s. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the wonderful care he received by sweet caregivers Del Pruitt, Sandra Durham, Cassandra Love, and the staff at Brookdale Burlington Memory Care and Authoracare Hospice.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00pm at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by Pastor Dave Johnson and Pastor Gerald Collins. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45pm prior to the service at the church.
