PAUL NOLAN Obituary

PAUL DANIEL NOLAN Paul Daniel Nolan, beloved husband, son, uncle, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 26, 2024. Born on June 10, 1962, to Glenn and Janette Nolan, Paul was the middle child of five boys. He was a lifelong resident of Harrison and married Julie Bernecker in 1994. They both returned to Harrison High School to teach for 30 years where he also coached cross-country, track, and basketball. Paul was a dedicated teacher and coach who was respected and admired by both his students and athletes. He loved being a Harrison Wildcat his entire life, but Paul's greatest joy revolved around his role as an uncle. He will be remembered as the uncle who acted like the kids, the one with no rules, and the one who couldn't say no. He was also a huge fan of Miami RedHawks basketball and football and enjoyed attending their games with his brother Pete and their friends. Paul loved to travel and was able to visit all 50 states and 37 national parks with his wife, Julie, where they spent their time hiking and photographing animals. Paul endured nine years of treatment for stage 4 kidney cancer, beating the odds and refusing to give up, and during that time he continued his hobbies of hiking, jogging, working in the yard, feeding his squirrels, planting tree seedlings and wildflowers, and being a sports fan. He was a member of Bright Christian Church and loved attending and serving there. He knew that God was in control and trusted in His plan. Paul is survived by his wife: Julie; mother: Janette; brothers: Peter (Cathy), Steven Dale (Kathy), James (Debbie), and Tom (Marie); nieces and nephews: Hayley (Max) Gorham, Julia Harmon, Brett, Brody, and Kaylen Bernecker, Curt (Maryann) Nolan, Andy (Megan) Nolan, Stephanie (Ethan) Pedde, Eric (Tiffany) Nolan, Alison (Todd) Sukolsky, David (Mary Kate) Nolan, Kimberly (Sean) Leary, Laura and Abby Nolan; and 11 great-nieces and -nephews: Connor, Mia, Mason, Kelly, Karen, C.J., Blaire, Stella, Theo, Charlotte, and Finlay; parents-in-law: William and Marsha Bernecker; sister-in-law: Joann (Dave) Harmon; brother-in-law: Jim (Mindy) Bernecker. Paul will also be missed by his chosen family: Ashley (Todd) Grigsby; and dear friends: Jim and Kim Beyer, Dan and Barb Louder, and Kathy Kling. Preceded in death by his father: Glenn Nolan. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life service at Bright Christian Church, 24457 Stateline Rd, Lawrenceburg, Ind., on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 7 p.m. Burial will be at New Haven Cemetery on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. In honor of Paul's memory, memorials may be made to the Tim Tebow Foundation (2220 County Rd 210 W Ste 109 PMB 317, Jacksonville, FL 32259) to fight human trafficking or Compassion International (12290 Voyager Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80921) to help rescue children from poverty. Paul will be remembered for his faith in God, unwavering determination, love for his family, Miami Basketball, squirrels, trees, 5 gallon buckets, and also for his humble generosity to others.

Paul was so loved by so many...family, friends, colleagues, students and basically everyone he met. His memory will last for many years for many people. My love goes out to Julie and her family.
