Paul PlainFeather Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 27, 2026.
Paul Lee PlainFeather from Lodgepole, MT, passed away on March 24, 2026 in Great Falls, MT. Paul was born on October 20, 1983, in Havre, MT to Benita (Bell) and Russell PlainFeather. His Indian name Eagle Boy (Man) was given to him by his grandmother Jenny Gray. Paul was the youngest child out of 5 siblings, so he was protected, and his siblings did everything for him. Paul grew up in Lodgepole, and when he was 5 years old, he had a Teddy Bear named Maverick and called himself Goose. His parents owned racehorses, so he and his bear would be on the armrest of the couch acting like jockeys. Later on in 1992, Paul moved to Pryor, MT, and attended Plenty Coups Elementary and High School. He was always hanging out with his cousins and friends at the basketball courts in Pryor or swimming at Baptist Bridge. He loved basketball and played in Jr. High tournaments, coached by the late Boyd Stands. During his high school years at Plenty Coups, Paul met his best friend and companion, Dominique Long Knife. He received the great news that he was going to be a father. They were blessed with a baby girl and named her Mayliana Bell PlainFeather. He loved his child very much and cared for her until his last days.

Paul relocated his family to Billings, where he embarked on his professional career, holding several positions, including serving as a firefighter. He enjoyed branding calves alongside Levi, Brian Bell, and his grandfather, George Bell. His brother Wylon would hire Paul for work and taught Paul how to operate heavy equipment. In 2004 Wylon started his own construction company with Paul by his side and they started out with working on septic and sewer systems. The company started getting more contracts with Paul's expertise in operating equipment. Paul would say, "Wylon said there is always a way." He would also say, "If you ran one equipment you can run them all." Paul worked for 5 different construction companies and operated a scraper.

The PlainFeather family started buying racehorses. They put together a Indian Relay Team, PlainFeather Relay and Flat Track. Paul was always excited to get his groomer license every year and ready to catch on the Relay Team. His off-season job was at Double Tree as dishwasher. He liked working on the 20th floor and look out on the city. Paul also worked at Fire Cash BLM Forestry (2025) with Johnny Demontiny. He worked for BIA Camp Crew. He enjoyed work with his friend Earl Ollinger. He organized everyone in the chow line. He was clean and always had things in order.

Paul is survived by spouse Dominique Long Knife, his daughter Mayliana PlainFeather, mother Benita (Bell) PlainFeather, siblings: Ivanna PlainFeather, Levi PlainFeather, Wylon PlainFeather.

Preceded in death by sister Russellynn PlainFeather, brother Ryan PlainFeather, father Russell PlainFeather Sr., grandparents: George and Mae (Chopwood) Bell and Samuel and Adaline (Rock Above) PlainFeather.
