Paul E. Poe, age 93 of Kalamazoo, died on September 15, 2024, at the Laurels of Galesburg. He was born on March 11, 1931, in Bridgeport, Alabama, the son of James and Avie (Conner) Poe. Paul left school at a young age but returned later in life to receive his high school diploma in his 50s from Comstock High School, walking in the graduation ceremony with his grandsons. For over 25 years, Paul was a dispatcher for General Motors. On July 15, 1949, he married Marie Griggs, who preceded him in death in 2016. They were members of East Main Church of Christ and were involved with the church for many years. Paul was an elder of the Mall City Church of Christ. Paul and Marie helped plant the Mall City congregation. He enjoyed visiting with friends at Julianna's Restaurant on a regular basis. Paul loved riding his motorcycle.
His family includes his children: Shirley Tinney, Roger (Joyce) Poe, Marcia Hulsey and Regina Gunnels; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marie, his 12 brothers and sisters, his sons: Dennis and Ronald, his granddaughters: Lorena Wager, Shandra Wingler, and Christina Hilliard; and his grandson, Michael Poe.
Friends may gather with his family on Thursday, September 19th from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Location, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, where his funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM, with ministers Al Parr, Roger Paul Poe, Sr. and Christopher D. Poe officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
In memory of Paul, donations may be made to Beechwood Hills Christian Camp.
