Paul Vander Pol, age 89 of Lynden, went peacefully home to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family at the Christian Health Care Center on Friday, June 4. The son of Nelis and Neltje (Meijer) Vander Pol, he was born in Oak Harbor, WA on December 21, 1920 and grew up in Lynden. He was married to Wilma Haak in Lynden on April 26, 1950 and for thirty-eight years owned and operated Whatcom Electrical & Plumbing. He was a member of the Washington State Electrical Contractors Assn and was a Charter Member of Covenant Grace Reformed Church where he also served as an Elder. Paul as a member of Gideon’s International, enjoyed raising honey bees and volunteered at the Lynden Christian paper bailing program. Mr. Vander Pol is survived by his wife Wilma; children Stan (Kathy) Vander Pol of Blaine, Jan (Greg) Smit of Lynden, Wes (Liz) Vander Pol of Lynden, Gary (Joanie) Vander Pol of Everson, Karen (John) Mead of Blaine and Jim (Tammie) Vander Pol of Blaine; thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother Neil (Kathy) Vander Pol of Brennan, WA; sisters-in-law Henrietta Vander Pol of Sunnyside, WA and Minnie Vander Pol of Lynden; brother and sister-in-law Bernard and Nella Schuyleman of Lynden and numerous other relatives. Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by sisters Martha Goudswaard, Pauline Page and Gert Rylaarsdam; brothers Bert, Dick, John, Hank and Mike Vander Pol and great-grandson baby Bergsma. Visitation hours will be from 3 to 5 pm on Tuesday, June 8, at Gillies Funeral Home in Lynden. Burial will be at 10 am on Wednesday, June 9, in Monumenta Cemetery followed by funeral services at 11 am in the United Reformed Church of Lynden, 8650 Benson Road. Paul’s family wishes to express it’s sincerest appreciation to the staff of the Christian Health their loving care. Memorials in Paul’s name may be made to the Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Dr. or Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Dr., both Lynden, WA 98264.
