Richard Paul Richardson, 90, of Pomaria, widower of Norma Ruff Richardson, died Thursday, November 12, at Newberry Health.
Born on April 9, 1935 in Irmo, he was the son of the late Clyde “Did” and Ruth Richardson Koon.
Paul served in the South Carolina National Guard and delivered newspapers for the Newberry Observer. He later worked and retired from the State Newspaper. Mr. Richardson was a sales representative and driver for Stokes-Trainor in Newberry. He was also an insurance agent for AAL which later became Lutheran Brotherhood. He was a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church where he served on church council, was a choir member, and was a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission. Paul loved the Clemson Tigers and attended every football game that he could. He enjoyed reading books, especially those written by James Patterson. Another love of Paul's was his love of Corvettes. He was the last surviving founding member of the Pomaria Ruritan Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula L. Richardson of Los Angeles, sisters-in-law, Jimmie Ruff and Mildred Wicker; nephews, Tarry (Melinda) Long, Tommy (Lisa) Long, and Keith (Melinda) Wicker; a niece, Trudy (Todd) Davis; a special caregiver, Paul Whitener; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Long; and by brothers-in-law, George Long and James Wicker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Pomaria Lutheran Church by the Rev. Michele Fischer. Burial will follow in St. Philip's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Pomaria Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 246, Pomaria, SC 29126 or to the Pomaria Ruritan Club, c/o Mr. Billy Bedenbaugh, 1197 Mud Creek Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pall bearers will be Tommy Sims, Kenny Richardson, Timothy Richardson, Brandon Riddle, Hunter Key, and Jeremy Lindler.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Pomaria Ruritan Club.
