Paul David Samuelson, age 68, of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
He was born on October 8, 1957, in Marysville, Kansas, the son of David and Marilyn (Olsen) Samuelson. He graduated from Swea City High School with the Class of 1976.
Following graduation, Paul served in the United States Navy. He later attended Northwest Iowa Technical College (NITC) in 1981, where he studied Diesel Technology. Paul went on to become a Master Diesel Mechanic. He was self-employed at Mainly Trucks in Columbus, Nebraska for 15 years and also worked various mechanic jobs throughout Iowa and Nebraska. He married Rita Samuelson, and the couple later divorced.
Paul enjoyed reading, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, tinkering, and had a strong interest in science. Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren and was incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cindy Miller; and his niece, Hannah Doyle.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Nichole (Hunter) Flodman and their children, Alec, Emma, and Leah, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; his son, Matthew (Jenna) Samuelson and their children, Ethan, Nolan, and Logan, all of Wayne, Nebraska; and his son, Andrew (Hannah) Samuelson and their children, Mya, Micaiah, Malia, and Maverick, all of Casper, Wyoming. He is also survived by his siblings: Karl Samuelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Joel Samuelson of Perry; Gloria (Terry) Eason of Waukee; and Laura Samuelson of Perry; his brother-in-law, Kurt Miller of Minneapolis, Minnesota; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
