Paul Sas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Growney Funeral Home on Oct. 31, 2024.
Paul Sas, a devoted husband, father, and community supporter, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Paul pursued his education in drafting at Edison Tech. By the age of 18, he embarked on an independent life, living with his stepbrother. Paul's journey took a significant turn when he was drafted into the Navy. He was based in Jacksonville, Florida, and served diligently in Malta, Italy, on a repair ship. After completing 4 years of active service, he continued his commitment to the Navy for an additional 26 years, stationed at Floyd Bennett Field in New York, Groton Navy Base, and Fort Wadsworth, NY, before retiring in 1996.
During his service, Paul met the love of his life, Claire Russel. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming their son, Paul William, who would later marry Cathy Ryan.
A staunch supporter of St. Catherine's School and Church, Paul also contributed his time as an assistant scout leader for Troop 90. His professional life was marked by hard work and dedication. He worked at Norris Industries in Newark until its closure, then at Ansul Fire Equipment in Kearny until it relocated to Georgia. Paul found his calling at CO2 Sales & Service in Hoboken, NJ, specializing in fire systems for ships and computer rooms, including the WPIX transmitter in the World Trade Center. After CO2's closure, he continued his career with Able Fire, maintaining building systems until 2009, when he retired after the passing of his beloved wife, Claire Sas.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Cathy, along with family, friends, and neighbors who cherished his presence and contributions to their lives. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication and caring spirit.
